CYAA 2012 Winter Series Race 5 Results and Series Points status (Posted 23.7.12)

SayonaraDear Skippers and Crews of the 2012 Classics Winter Series

Attached are the results of Yesterdays Race 5 plus the current series points status.

With very light forecast for yesterday’s race the 24 starters who came out race put on a showcase event for our Classic Yacht racing fleet.

Congratulations Sayonara, Acrospire and Pastime for taking out the first 3 on corrected time as part of the group of 12 that finished the shortened course. The same group took out the line honours with Acrospire leading from Pastime and Sayonara. Taking into account the tide and keeping their boats moving to finish yesterday was no accident. Although the Kingurra people, who didn’t move for an hour, and those caught in the wind hole by the St Kilda breakwater may disagree.

The silhouettes of Acrospire and Sayonara under full sail to the top marks provided images of what those races from yesterday must have looked like.

Our starts are now consistently and confidently clean with most of the fleet hitting the line on the gun. Starts by Avain, Zephry and particularly Loama were notable.

The performance of our Tumlare fleet in yesterdays conditions showed why they were the top bay boat of the 40’s.

In spite of the boats caught out yesterday, a notable feature of our fleet is the light wind performance. Consistent racing is now reflected in how well our fleet sail and how important racing is for us to maintain our Classic Yacht fleet in top shape.

The sail of the day had to go to Loama and her crew. They picked their way through all the light wind and tide to finish. 7 minutes less on elapsed time was all they needed to take out the corrected time honours. In context with yesterday’s conditions that was very little time.

Commiserations to Mercedes for missed recording a finish by a minute.

Although half our fleet didn’t finish all handicaps will be looked over.

The current points score without a race drop still has Charlie Salters, Ellida’s on top being chased by Doug Jenkin’s Ettrick with George Fischer and Michael Rhodes on working hard on Boambillee, keeping the series tight.

Our results and points score will appear both on our web site and Hobsons Bay YC web site.

There were a couple of hick ups in the corrected time order at the top with the original (preliminary) results of Race 5.

Apologies, at least we picked them up.

Scott McDonald has put a link to some images of yesterday’s race on our web site.

I’ll send some stunning Classic Boat magazine style images provided by Kent Bacon of Renene over to our web site later.

So in two more weeks, Aug 5, we live again. Next race conducted by Royals.

Regards to all
