The Great Veteran Yacht Race is for Classic yachts that were launched prior to 1976 and have competed in a Sydney-Hobart race.
In addition this year there is a new additional division –  for yachts with a launch date after 1975 and prior to 1991 – The IOR era .
The NOR – Notice of Race is attached to this email and will shortly be available on the CYCA website .
We look forward to seeing you on the water so please put in your entry as soon as possible.
Each skipper will need to provide compliance with the entry to include a current Cat 7 safety certificate, insurances, and a crew list prior to the race start.
There will be a prize giving after the race at the CYCA club house for all competing yachts.
Please contact any of the Organising Committee as copied in this email,  or the CYCA sailing office for any help or assistance in entering your yacht
We are looking forward to a great race in May

20th October news

Latest S2HCYR news from David Champtaloup.

Everything seems to be progressing well and we have 21 entries to date.

When the time comes, I think the best way for us to fix the assignment of CYAA members to boats will be through a conversation, and probably on Zoom. We will be looking to talk through any peculiarities of boats and boat owners, and with your input finding happy pairings for the CYAA visitors. As I imagine it, the Sydney side will be represented by Nigel, Peter and me.

There will be a dinner at the CYCA on Saturday 11 December with a guest speaker. Due to the Covid regulations the CYCA expects to be in force on the night we are only able to offer 120 places. We are planning to set aside ten of those places for visiting CYAA members. The cost of the dinner is $117 per person. I will tell you when the places are available to be booked.

Offshore veterans

December will see a unique celebration of Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race heritage

With the 75th anniversary of the Sydney-Hobart fast approaching the CYCA, in association with supporting local yacht clubs, has begun detailed preparation for a series of special events to mark that historic occasion.

Central to this effort is the intention to give due recognition to Australia’s rich offshore racing heritage and to the individual classic yachts and crews that helped bring the sport to public prominence.

A revitalised Sydney-Hobart Great Veterans Race in May this year saw normal entry figures more than double.

Encouraged by that response there will now be a two-day regatta for Sydney-Hobart veteran yachts on December 7 and 8, 2019. The event is open to any yacht with a launch date prior to 1976 that has competed in a Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Other ‘veteran’ yachts may be invited to participate at the discretion of the Organising Authority.

Competition will be in spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions. A program of social functions is planned and temporary berthing at the CYCA in Rushcutter’s Bay can usually be arranged for visiting yachts.

Among the older Sydney-Hobart campaigners expected to take part are such legendary names as Ragamuffin, Archina, Love & War, Fidelis, Caprice of Huon, Anitra V and Mister Christian.

The Notice of Race and supporting information has been circulated to all clubs and is available on the CYCA website.
